JAMMU, Oct 25: J&K Medical Department Daily Wagers’ Union today held a protest demonstration in front of OPD Block of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu demanding their pending wages and framing of policy for regularization of casual labourers engaged in GMCH Jammu and its associated hospitals.
Addressing the protesting casual labourers, Rakesh Mehra, one of their representatives, criticized the State Government and Health & Medical Education Department for playing with the career of hundred innocent casual labourers, who are working day and night for the smooth functioning of Medical College and associated hospitals despite the fact that they have not been wages for last more than 30 months.
He said that they are running from pillar and post for release of their pending wages, as due to non-release of their wages their families are on the verge of starvation.
Another representative, Akhil Sharma, said that these casual labourers are the employees of GMCH Jammu and associated hospitals and are working under the supervision of Medical Engineering Department for last more than four years but now their fate is hanging as neither Principal, GMCH Jammu nor Executive Engineer of Mechanical Engineering Department is taking their responsibility and no one is listening to their burning problems and demands.
He said that they are protesting for last more than 41 days but neither Principal of the Medical College nor the higher authorities of the Medical Education Department are paying heed to their grievances.
The protesting labourers appealed Health and Medical Education Minister, Bali Bhagat, to intervene personally into the matter to bring justice to the protesting employees.
