KATRA, Nov 5: The 2-day training workshop on indoor air rifle and pistol shooting for budding shooters of Katra and the surrounding areas began here today. The workshop has been organised by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board at its Sports Complex at Katra.
Samresh Jung, an international shooter and Arjuna Awardee, who was special invitee on the occasion, imparted training to the participant of the  workshop in the presence of Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board and Dr. M. K. Kumar, Additional CEO of the Board. It is pertinent to mention that Mr. Jung is also Member of the Governing Council of the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex. As many as 30 budding shooters are participating in this training workshop.
Mr. Jung imparted hands-on training in varied shooting techniques to the participants of the workshop and emphasised upon them to focus on basic skills to improve their game. The techniques he imparted to the budding shooters include how to take aim to hit the target, besides teaching them the basics of the game like proper handling of weapon, maintaining perfect balance between body and mind, body posture and consistency as also other technical aspects of the discipline which are essential to become a good shooter. Observing that academics and sports are essential for all round personality development of children, he urged upon the parents to encourage their children for take part in various sports and games.
Speaking on the occasion, Sahu gave details of the various sports facilities which have been made available in different disciplines at this state-of-the-art Sports Complex established by the Shrine Board as part of its social support initiative. Dwelling on the aims and objectives of organising the training workshop, he informed that it has been done with a view to popularising and promoting this sport in the area and to nurture the shooting talent by providing training and coaching facilities to the budding shooters to prepare them to participate in sporting competitions at various levels. He added that by learning shooting techniques from ace shooters the budding players have the opportunity to improve their game. He also held a detailed discussion with Mr. Jung vis-a-vis training of young shooters as well as promoting this game in the area.
Among those present on the occasion were Pankaj Gupta and Amit Vermani, Dy CEOs, Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, SMVDSB, other officers and staff of the Shrine Board, young shooters, coaches and the students of various educational institutions.
