India finishes 8th in BWF World Junior Mixed Team

Bilbao (Spain), Nov 6:
Indian colts ended their campaign in eighth place at the BWF World Junior Mixed Team Badminton Championship after suffering successive losses to Indonesia and Denmark here.
Indian junior shuttlers lost 0-3 to Indonesia in the 5-8th place play-off yesterday and then suffered a 2-3 defeat against Denmark for the 7-8 place tie today.
Against Denmark, India had conjured up hopes of a win after mixed doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankiredyy and Mahima Aggarwal and men’s singles player Lakshya Sen won their respectively matches to put the team 2-0 ahead.
But India lost the next three ties with women’s singles player Aakarshi Kashyap, men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj and Krishna Prasad Garaga, and Mahima Aggarwal and Mithula UK going down fighting.
In the first tie, Satwiksairaj and Mahima defeated Rasmus Kjaer and Alexandra Boje 21-16 22-20 in a 32-minute match, Lakshya then disposed off Jesper Toft 21-16 21-11.
However, Aakarshi lost to Julie Dawall Jakobsen 15-21 12-21, Satwiksairaj and Krishna lost 19-21 21-14 18-21 to Rasmus and Jesper and then Mahima and Mithula suffered a 14-21 21-19 16-21 loss to Julie and Amalie Magelund.
Yesterday against Indonesia, men’s doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Krishna Prasad Garaga lost 14-21 14-21 to Muhammad Fachrikar and Bagas Maulana in the opening tie and then Shikha Gautam suffered a 11-21 18-21 loss to Aurum Oktavia Winata in women’s singles as India lagged 0-2.
In the third tie, Mithun Manjunath lost to Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo 21-16 17-21 16-21 in a 52-minute men’s singles clash as it was all over for India. PTI
