GLS organizes Hill Marathon

JAMMU, Nov 6: G L S Memorial Society of Education & Research organized Jammu Hill Marathon 2016 today at M A Stadium here.
It was first of its kind initiative in Jammu & Kashmir wherein the marathon comprised of 4 different events – 3 Km and 5 Km Family Walk/ run, 10 Km Timed Run and 21 Km Half Marathon.
Runners from across the country participated in this event. Even a foreigner namely, Vladimir Hladik participated in this event.
The route of the marathon is one of the most scenic and most challenging routes in the country.
The events of the marathon were flagged off by Sat Sharma, M L A Jammu (West) and State President BJP, R S Pathania, M L A Ramnagar and Rajesh Gupta, MLA Jammu (East). They were the guests of honour on the occasion.
The organizing team was led by Gurpreet Singh, Administrator of G L S Public School and Rahul Sharma, Psychologist, journalist and a social worker.
The event was dedicated to the valiant soldiers of our country, the National Heroes from Army, BSF, Air Force, CRPF, Navy & police, serving or retired, living or martyred, who risk and sacrifice their precious lives to guard our country against internal and external threats.
Zakir Hussain from Indian Army stood first in Half Marathon (Elite Category of upto 35 years) and he completed it in approximately record time of 1 hour 15 mins. Manvemdra Singh, again from security forces finished second with just a gap of few seconds and third rank was secured by Mohd. Ashraf and he completed the event in approximately 1 hour 17 minutes.
The event had a lot of participation from Jammu & Kashmir Police. Tejinder Singh, SSP CID Jammu was among the few top finishers in 10 Km Event. SDPO R S Pura, S K Choudhary, Gurinderpal Singh, SDPO Akhnoor also participated in the event. Bishnesh Kumar, SHO Gandhi Nagar was among top 5 performers in Half Marathon (35-50 years category).
The event was supported by Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Department.
Medical camp was organized at the event by team of doctors from Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu. Medical support was also provided by GMC, Jammu.
The participants were given an event t-shirt, a medal and a certificate, on route refreshment and breakfast (Goodie bag).
The event concluded with the National Anthem and everyone present in the function stood up to salute the Nation and its heroes, to whom this event was dedicated.
