NEW DELHI: In the backdrop of a tussle between the Centre and opposition parties on black money and currency ban moves, the Modi government has convened an all-party meeting on next Tuesday.
“This is customary and conventional. Such meetings are held on the eve of every session of Parliament,” a Government source said here.
The consultations, likely to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi besides other senior ministers and floor leaders of all major parties, would discuss among other issues currency ban, surgical strikes across LoC by the Indian Army, situation in Kashmir, GST and Uniform Civil Code, the source said.
The winter session of Parliament will commence on November 16 — as it has been advanced this year to facilitate early passage of Central GST and related legislations. Normally, winter session used to begin only in the third week of November.
From the legislative point of view, the monsoon session of Parliament that ended in August was highly successful and various important bills were passed. In the winter session, Parliament is likely to take up at least 12-14 new bills, sources said.
The Centre will also push for passage of the ordinance which seeks to amend the Enemy Property Act. The ordinance to amend the nearly 50-year-old Enemy Property law was promulgated more than once.
The Enemy Property (Amendment and Validation) Bill, 2016 seeks to guard against claims of succession or transfer of properties left by people who migrated to Pakistan after wars.
The ruling BJP and its NDA allies are likely to issue whips to members in both the houses to be present in view of serious debates and important legislative business, including the Goods and Services Tax, to be taken up for consideration, sources said. (AGENCIES)
