SAMBA, Nov 11: The five day training programme for facilitators on ‘Community Led Total Sanitation’ organized by district administration in association with ‘Tata Water Mission (a Tata Trust initiative), ‘Knowledge Links India’ and Ministry of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj concluded at DC office complex here today.
CLTS is an approach that triggers communities to engage in participatory analysis and collective local action to end open defecation. It looks at sanitation primarily as a community and not merely an individual household issue. Samba is the first district in State where such an intensive training course has been organized.
The trainee facilitators comprised of NSS volunteers from Central University Jammu, students of GDC Samba, self help group members and members from NGO. During the programme, six panchayats were taken up on pilot basis for pre-triggering and subsequent follow up in the wee hours to spread the message of making Samba district Open Defecation Free.
The leaders that emerged during various activities at the field level were invited to the last day of training where they vowed to make their Panchayats ODF before December 31.
DC Samba, Sheetal Nanda informed that the programme has been organized to target specific areas and groups through facilitators. She appreciated the Tata Water Mission and Knowledge Links India for their active support in conducting the programme.
DPO Samba, Aijaj Qaiser informed that the same exercise will be replicated in all villages and Panchayats of the district and village wise action plan is being framed in this regard.
On the occasion, BDOs, functionaries from Rural Development Department and a team of Master Trainers from nationally acclaimed consultancy services, ‘Knowledge Links India’ headed by the Vice President Chandramauli Pandey were also present.
