SRINAGAR, Nov 13: In a massive drive against timber smugglers, police in Shopian district of South Kashmir arrested 23 of them and booked 4 under Public Safety Act (PSA).
A police spokesman said that Shopian police has launched a massive crackdown against the timber smugglers by arresting 23 timber smugglers including four notorious involved in a number of forest smuggling cases. He said that 216.31 Cft has been recovered from these smugglers.
“Today one notorious forest smuggler Gowhar Parray @ Setha son of Gulla Parray resident of Chowan Keller was booked under PSA and lodged in District Jail Kot Bhalwal Jammu. Three other notorious timber smugglers Shafi Ladi son of Alim Din resident of Nasarpora Keller, Riyaz Paswa son of Munshi Paswal, Sajad Paswal son of Talib Paswal residents of Shalidara have been booked under PSA in last 15 days”, the spokesman said.
