JAMMU, Nov 14: On the occasion of ‘World Diabetes Day’, free blood sugar detection camp was initiated at Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar Jammu with the support of Directorate of Health Services Jammu.
The camp was inaugurated by Dr Madhuri Slathia Medical Superintendent in presence of Dr Arun Sharma Dy Medical Superintendent, Dr Mirudala Nodal Officer NPCDCS (National Programme for Prevention & Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases & Stroke) Directorate of Health Services Jammu, Dr Vinay Chib Medical Officer Stores other officers and officials of Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
The free blood sugar testing was done at three places namely OPD Entry, Gynaecology & Obstetrics OPD and in Emergency. More than 1000 sugar tests were done today. This free sugar detection test will continue for next few days.
Our Srinagar correspondent adds: World Diabetes Day is being celebrated today on November 14, 2016. The theme of the day is “Eyes on Diabetes”. Division of Epidemiology & Public Health, Barzulla under the aegis of Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir (DHSK) launched the initiative at all District Hospitals to ensure screening of maximum number of people and referral of suspect cases for early diagnosis and treatment so as to modify the course of the disease and to reduce the risk of complications.
In this context, screening camps were held at all district hospitals and some CHCs across Kashmir Division. A total of 10582 people were screened and around 966 people were found to be suspected for diabetes.
On this occasion Director Health Services, Kashmir Dr Saleem ur Rehman visited District Hospital Pulwama, Gousia Hospital and JLNM Hospital Rainawari to supervise and monitor the screening camps. He deliberated upon the administrators and the NCD staff to work with utmost dedication so that quantum of diabetes screening is increased and any suspected case of diabetes is picked up early for better treatment plan.
The significance of this day was that various district hospitals across Kashmir were illuminated with symbolic blue light to increase the awareness about diabetes and to sensitize public about the importance of the day and the disease.
To mark the World Diabetes Day, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr Nasir Ahmed Naqash, today inaugurated a screening camp at District Hospital Baramulla. Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that mass awareness needs to be generated regarding the diabetes disease which is associated with life style and can be easily controlled by following healthy diet and regular exercises.
A large number of people turned visited the screening camp and more than 1000 people were screened.
Among others, CMO Baramulla, Medical Superinte-ndent DHS Baramulla, volunteers and social workers were present on the occasion.
