Cong resents concession given to tax defaulters

JAMMU, Nov 16: Congress has questioned the State Govt’s  decision to incentivize the tax defaulters and tax evaders at the cost of genuine tax payers, which would cause huge loss  to the State exchequer.
Reacting to the Govt’s  announcement of  granting  100%  amnesty to  GST defaulters and the tax evaders, on penalty and interests , PCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma has termed the decision as an attempt to incentivize to the defaulters and tax evaders, without going into the genuineness of any such case on individual merit. This kind of general amnesty to the tax defaulter and evaders  would amount to undue favour and encouraging the tendency of avoiding payment of tax already collected from consumers and used by them for over a decade.
He said that Govt has incentivized and favoured the unscrupulous elements who seem to wield considerable influence over the policy decision of PDP-BJP Govt, whereby huge loss would be caused to the State exchequer, for which Govt  owes an explanation to the general public.
PCC leader further said that Govt could have set up the mechanism to examine the genuineness of any such claim on individual basis, in a transparent manner but general GST amnesty is highly objectionable needs to be recalled and rolled back.
