No power on earth can challenge accession: Gupta

JAMMU, Nov 16: Sharply reacting to the demand for reversal of the integration of J&K with India, the former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta alleged that certain dubious characters were trying to fish in the troubled waters but for machinations of powers hostile to India.
Rebutting the assertions of certain politicians that the accession of this Sate with Union of India was conditional, Prof. Gupta said that Maharaja Hari Singh had signed the same Instrument of Accession which was signed by 562 princes of other States by using their legal authority and there was no provision and condition to exercise this right.
Not only this, under the Constitution, J&K is an integral part of India and even in the State Constitution too, it has been endorsed that the accession is final and irrevocable but it sounds strange that who held high positions under oath of both the Constitutions should talk that accession was conditional, he added and observed that such like statements could not be expected from any nationalist having faith in the unity and integrity of the country.
Prof. Gupta further said that if the Constitution of India can be good for 125 crores of people including many crores of Muslims, how it can be harmful to some lakhs in Kashmir.
He said that what can be more deplorable than to talk secession or reversal of integration or describing Accession as conditional.
As far as Pakistan is concerned, it has no locus standi. Its position is that of an aggressor and it is the duty of every true Indian to defend every inch of land, he asserted.
He recalled that Pakistan has not abided by even the Security Council resolution in this regard and vacated the forcibly held areas of the State.
