JAMMU, Nov 30: Two – day long international conference on “Emerging Trends in Biomedical Research in the new Millennium”, organized by Department of Biochemistry in association with Indian Academy of Biomedical Sciences, concluded today in Government Medical College Jammu.
Dr Zahid Gillani, Principal and Dean Government Medical College, concluded the programme amidst patriotic song “Vande Matram”. The conference provided an opportunity to bring leading scientists and clinicians from India and abroad under one platform to discuss variety of burning issues facing human race at this juncture of time.
Dr Hari S Sharma from Holland, spoke on translational research and its application to human diseases. He emphasized that clinicians should work hand in hand with scientists. The center of attraction of the two days conference remained Prof. Joske Bunders from Amsterdan. She interacted with under graduate and post graduate students and discussed the method of teaching in India and compared it with the method adopted in Netherland. She instantly became popular among students of GMC Jammu by her excellent knowledge of medical science and research and her love towards under graduate teaching methods. Later on, she discussed in length the various new methods of teaching with Dr A S Bhatia, Head Department of Biochemistry GMC Jammu.
Dr Abbas Ali Mahdi, president Indian Society for Lead Awareness and Research, deliberated in detail over the hazards of lead exposures on human diseases. He stressed that all children should be screened for lead testing as chronic lead poisoning is very important cause for physical and mental impairment in children.
Dr Narsing Verma from King George Medical College Lucknow spoke in length on early and accurate diagnosis of diabities in Indian Population. Dr Neelima Verma from National Accreditation Board of Laboratory, New Delhi, briefed about the methods to control the accuracy of blood testing in clinical laboratories. Dr Sabiha Majid from GMC Srinagar discussed the global trends in the cancer of female reproductive systems. Dr R K Garg discussed the relationship of Vitamin D in tuberculosis of Brain. Dr Rekha Harish, Head Department of Pediatrics, GMC Jammu, discussed the hazards of eating junk food among children.
