ANANTNAG, Oct 7: Showket Cricket Club Bijbehara defeated JD Jidha Khanabal by 5 runs in an exciting opening match of the Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah T20 Cricket Roving Cup at Degree College ground, here today.
The tournament was inaugurated by senior NC leader Mustafa Kamal, MLA Hazratbal and chairman SKCC, DDC Anantnag, DIG South Kashmir Range and SSP Anantnag in an impressive function.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Showket Club scored a decent total of 159 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Nadeem top scored with brilliant 43 runs. For JD Jidha, Naseer Want claimed 3 wickets.
In reply, JD Jidha managed to score 154 runs in the allotted overs and fell just short of 5 runs from the victory target, thus lost the match by 5 runs. Rasik was the wrecker-in-chief, who scalped 4 important wickets, which fetched him man of the match award.
32 team are participating in this tournament.
Meanwhile, Gousia Pehru Cricket Club would take on Jhelum Dagpora at the same venue tomorrow.
