JAMMU: In the annual Armed Forces Flag Day ceremony held at Raj Bhavan here today, Governor N. N. Vohra has stressed the need for well planned initiatives being taken to ensure the welfare of our valiant soldiers, airmen and sailors in recognition of their enormous sacrifices for safeguarding the honour, glory, and safety of the Motherland. He observed that it is our moral responsibility to take special care of the families of our martyrs. The Governor made a contribution towards the Flag Day Fund.
Governor reiterated his concern for the widows who are not receiving pensions and urged Brigadier Harcharan Singh (Retd), Director Sainik Welfare, to prepare district wise data in respect of such widows and Mr. R.K. Goyal, Principal Secretary Home to explore the ways and means for providing suitable support to them.
Governor observed that the Rajya Sainik Board with suitable support from the State Home Department and Hqrs Northern Command, should initiate activities to provide opportunities for school children to be made aware about the role of the Defence Forces. This could be done, interalia, by, organizing tours to various Defence establishments, screening documentaries on the Armed Forces and organizing interaction of students with the decorated soldiers, like Hony. Captain Bana Singh, PVC, in the educational institutions.
While interacting with the retired Army personnel, the Governor emphasized the importance of mobilizing much larger fund collection and observed that this Day is a very important occasion for the entire nation to demonstrate its gratitude towards the ex-Service personnel and their families
