This has reference to the news item ‘NCM urged J&K to set up Minorities Commission’ DE Dec 8. It is quite dismaying to note that the State Government has shown indifference in setting up a Minority Commission for the minorities of the State.
The State Government had been urged before also to set up a Commission who will take care of the socio-political and economic needs of minorities living in this part of the country. Unfortunately, the State Government has never shown any seriousness in this regard, and has allowed the recommendations gather dust in files.
The minorities have been pleading for implementing these recommendations, but nobody hears them.
Since it is a State subject matter, it is only the State that has to set up the Commission. The State Government is requested not to dither on this issue, and take steps to have a commission in the State.
