JAMMU, Dec 13: Losing the summit clash on penultimate ball of the match to formidable Goa, Jammu and Kashmir boys has to satisfy with second place in the Junior National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship, organized by Haryana Tennis Ball Cricket Association, under the aegis of Tennis Ball Cricket Federation of Indian at Karnal, today.
Earlier, in the semifinals, Goa defeated Uttar Pradesh and J&K got better of Gujarat.
In the finals, winning the toss and batting first, J&K scored fighting total of 45 runs in the allotted 8 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process. Shahzad and Rustam were the main contributors with 14 and 12 runs to the total respectively.
Goa scored the required runs on penultimate ball of the match and claimed the title.
Rustam Ali of J&K emerged as highest wicket taker in the Championship by scalping 12 wickets, while Abhinav Khajuria was the best batsman and Imran Malik as the best all-rounder.
The team management while talking to Excelsior said that the players need encouragement and appreciation from Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, Secretary J&K State Sports Council for this outstanding achievement.
Earlier, in league matches, J&K defeated Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan.
