NEW DELHI: Students appearing for the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) 2017 for engineering will have to show their Aadhaar card as proof of identity, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
The decision to use the ubiquitous Aadhaar was taken by the Joint Apex Board (JAB), which oversees conduct of JEE (Main) exam, to make use of Aadhaar number for JEE (Main) exam 2017 with a view to ”prevent impersonation and ensure fair practice”, Minister of State for Human Resource Development Mahendra Nath Pandey said in a written reply.
However, students from the states of Assam, Meghalaya and Jammu and Kashmir, where Aadhaar coverage is low, can use passport number, ration card number, bank account number or any other valid Government identity number instead of Aadhaar number.
The Central Board of Secondary Education which conducts the exam is also facilitating students who may not have enrolled for Aadhaar to enroll at the nearest enrolment centre and can use 28 digit code printed on the Aadhaar Enrolment slip for applying for JEE exam. (AGENCIES)
