POONCH, Dec 15: The fifteen day long Police Martyr’s Sports festival organized by Poonch police concluded today. The closing ceremony of the festival was held today at Sports Stadium Poonch.
MLA Haveli, Shah Mohd Tantray and DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range, Johny William were the chief guest and Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Haron Malik and Commander 93 Inf Bde Brig A S Penderkar were the guests of honour on the valedictory function.
The mega festival covered the sporting events like cricket T20, Volleyball, Kho-kho, Kabaddi, wrist holding, marathon , Hockey and stone lifting.
During the valedictory function trophies and cash prizes were distributed amongst the winners and runners- up teams. Also certificates of participation were given to the participants of today’s marathon.
DIG Poonch Rajouri while speaking on the occasion said that JKP has been organizing various sports events with the aim to provide platform to the talented youth who have great potential in different sports activities adding that such events also bridge the gap between police and public. He further added that these events promote sports culture and channelize the youth energy in right direction.
MLA Haveli appreciated the role of police for keeping the sports activities alive in the district and also congratulated the players for maintaining high standards of discipline during the entire tournament.
The valedictory function was witnessed by a large number of locals, students, media personnel, poonch bar association members and traders of Poonch.
Prominent among others DFO Poonch, ACR Poonch Principals of GDC and Government Higher Secondary Schools, other police and civil officials were also present.
The J&K Police Martyr’s Sports Festival was organized under Civic Action Programme of J&K Police on the directions of DGP J&K in order to bridge the gap between civil society and Police and provide platform to the youth in sports events and also spread the message of a drug free society.
The mega event was organised by Poonch Police under the supervision of SSP Poonch and civil society.
