IAF activates sixth Advanced Landing Ground in Arunachal Pradesh

NEW DELHI : In yet another boost to operation capability to counter any possible threat from China, the Indian Air Force activated its sixth Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) at Turing in Arunachal Pradesh.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu yesterday formally inaugurated the ALG, as part of the Rs 720-crore project to develop seven such landing grounds which were not in use for decades.
The armed forces started focusing on the border infrastructure after witnessing massive construction and development on the Chinese side along the 1,080-km border.
The ALGs in Mechuka , Vijoynagar, Passighat, Ziro and Aalo were part of the project. The ALGs will allow the landing of C-130J Super Hercules, the latest addition to the air force’s transport aircraft.
These ALGs have night landing capabilities, which is a force multiplier for the Army manning the borders. These landing grounds will also be used for the civil flights, providing a fillip to infrastructure and tourism in the region.
The modernisation of the ALGs is also being carried out in Ladakh. (AGENCIES)
