Where are achhe din, asks Ambika Soni

JAMMU : Lashing out at the BJP for countywide demonetisation, All India Congress Committee General Secretary and In-charge J&K Affairs, Ambika Soni, today said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were still waiting for the ‘achhe din’ for which they voted BJP to power in the State.
“BJP at the Centre had led to calamity in the country with demonetisation announcement. There are no ‘achhe din’ for the people of Jammu and Kashmir with BJP in power in the state,” Ms Soni here told the mediapersons.
On the issue of allegations levelled against two J&K BJP ministers on ‘black money’, she said, “we have sought full enquiry into the issue by the Modi-led Government.” She said that Congress had been demanding for the formation of Joint Parliament Committee (JPC) on ‘black money issue’ for which the centre had not agreed. Ms Soni, however, said that the J&K Congress would make demonetisation as medium to aware people about the failures of BJP in the upcoming Panchayat Polls in the State.
Panchayat Polls will be held in the month of March 2017 in Jammu and Kashmir. “We were not against the recovery of black money and also assured full support to the Government for their on claim that demonetisation would curb the terrorism but unfortunately the common man especially the daily wagers were affected ” she added.
“Its almost 50 days since demonetisation but there is no relief in the hardships being faced by the common people,” she said adding that 125-crore people of the country are in distress. “Government says that they were making people habitual of going cashless but more than 80 percent of the works cannot be accomplished without paying cash,” she added and said that AICC Vice-president Rahul Gandhi wanted to speak in the Parliament on the issue but was not allowed.
On the Foundation Day of the Congress, Rahul Gandhi had asked five questions to the Government besides five demands.
“Mr Modi sought 50 days to bring life to normal but still there is no hope. We had asked Prime Minister few questions for which he had to answer,” she stressed. “Almost all Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes were returned but it is questionable how much black money was recovered,” she added and said that there was at least 2 percent of downfall in country’s GDP due to demonetisation. There was total economical imbalance, she claimed.
She said that unemployed had increased especially the daily wagers, who used to earn on daily basis, have suffered the most. “We want to be the voice of the daily wagers and the questionnaire is being published in every language to make people aware of demonetisation effects,” she added. Agriculture sector had suffered, what about compensation to those who died of cardiac arrest while standing in queue, she questioned.
