Shutdown affects normal life

SRINAGAR, Jan 7: Normal life in Kashmir was affected today due to shutdown called by separatists.
Shops and commercial establishments remained closed across summer capital here and public transport was partially off the roads. The private vehicles were, however, plying normally. Street vendors had set-up their stalls at multiple places in the city’s civil line areas.
In order to prevent outbreak of protests, authorities had deployed contingents of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in downtown areas falling under five police stations. However, no untoward incident was reported from anywhere. Reports of shutdown were also received from other districts of the Valley.
In Sopore town of Baramulla district, a complete shutdown was observed to mourn the killing of senior militant commander associated with Al Badr Mujahideen, Muzzafar Ahmad Naiko alias Muz Molvi, who was killed yesterday in an encounter. During the shutdown, hundreds of security men were deployed to prevent outbreak of protests across the Sopore town.
