JAMMU, Jan 10: A massive protest rally was organized today by PHE workers under the banner of PHE Workers Welfare Association, Jammu province, here in the office premises of Chief Engineer, PHE Department, BC Road.
A large number of PHE workers drawn from far flung areas of all the PHE Divisions of Jammu region viz Kathua, Samba, Reasi, Jammu, Udhampur, Akhnoor, Nowshera, Darmari, Doda and Kishtwar, under the leadership of Bakshi Singh, provincial president of the association, participated in the rally.
The annoyed workers raised slogans against the State Government and the higher authorities of PHE Department for doing nothing to redress their demands despite repeated assurances. The demands of the workers include regularization of all daily wage workers of PHE who have completed 5 years of service, regular disbursement of wages to all the workers, release of pending wages, appointment of one family member of the daily wage workers who die in harness, constitution of welfare fund committee, etc.
While addressing the protesting workers, Subhash Verma, general secretary of the association, said that the State Government is misleading and befooling the innocent workers for last so many years and now the workers have reached at the verge of starvation due to dishonest and arrogant attitude of the PHE Minister, who has failed in resolving even single demand of the workers till today.
Bakshi Singh in his concluding speech, said that the workers have shown a lot of patience till today and has abide the discipline always but the State Government and its Minister has not shown even little sympathy with the workers.
He said that if the demands of the workers are not redressed by February 26, the association will observe 24 hours ‘Kaam Choro Hartal’ from February 27 to 28 and the state Government will be held responsible for the consequences.
