BILLAWAR, Jan 13: On its 36th Foundation Day, Kissan Sabha organized an impressive ‘Kissan Samelan’ at village Kattal, near Sukrala in tehsil Billawar.
Farmers from many villages of the tehsils of Billawar, Ramkot and Macchedi participated in large numbers. State president of Kissan Sabha, Hari Chand Jalmeria was the chief guest while the presidium comprised of Amar Singh, Punnu Ram Jamodia, Krishan Gopal Upadhiaya, Hukam Chand Jalmeria and Shanker Dass Bhagat.
Speaking on the occasion, Hari Chand Jalmeria, the founder president of the Sabha, reminded the gathering that the Kissan Sabha was founded on January 11, 1981 in a largely attended Kissan Samelan held at village Kohag in tehsil Billawar. “In these 36 years thereafter, the Kissan Sabha has waged many struggles for the cause of farmers community,” he said and highlighted achievements of the Sabha.
Jalmeria assailed the alleged pro-rich, pro-MNCs and anti-farmers policies of the Central and State Government whereas over 70 percent of the country’s population is dependent on agricultural living in villages. He asked the Government to reshape its policies to make them pro-farmers and pro-rural.
The Kisan Sabha also demanded creation of Billawar district, opening Agricultural University in Billawar, connecting all villages with roads, providing movably animal dispensaries, preserving indigenous seeds and developing tourism potential of proposed Billawar district.
Others, who spoke, included Raj Kumar, Shiv Dass, Capt Dass Ram, Qaim Din, Kaku Ram, Devinder Singh, Jagdish Singh and Puran Singh.
On the occasion, a committee of 31 members for Billawar district movement was elected with Tek Chand Sapolia as its president, Raj Kumar as working president, Punnu Ram Jamodia as vice president, Capt Dass Ram as general secretary, Devinder Singh and Hukam Chand as joint secretaries and Kaku Ram as treasurer.
