JAMMU, Jan 18: Ruling BJP today hit back at NC MLA from Nagrota, Devender Singh Rana charging him with trying to demoralize the Army while the opposition legislator retaliated, leading to heated exchanges between the two parties.
During the Question Hour, BJP State president and MLA Jammu West Sat Sharma ‘CA’ said Rana had yesterday made a statement in the Legislative Assembly that one Hoshiar Singh has been shot at and injured by the Army in Nagrota.
“When Army and police didn’t know identity of the injured even now, how Rana has named the man as Hoshiar Singh”?, Sat Sharma asked and charged Rana with trying to demoralize the Army.
Sat said Rana should tender an apology in the House for his statement.
Later, Rana said the BJP president, who is a coalition partner MLA, has tried to politicize Nagrota incident.
“The BJP is trying to politicize the issue. I had exercised utmost restraint yesterday and had used the word reportedly while naming the victim. If a man is shot at, there is a reason to discuss the issue. Nobody is the holy cow,” Rana said.
Again, there were heated exchanges between NC and BJP members with both sides passing remarks against each others.
Meanwhile, police today identified the firing victim as Yashpaul son of Gurdas Ram, a resident of Raipur Satwari.
He was aged about 37 and was stated to be mentally deranged. He had left the house and reached Nagrota, where he was taken as suspect and shot at.
Police said the man earlier also used to leave the house.
