JAMMU, Jan 21: A demonstration by Casual Labours of Irrigation & Flood Control Department was held in Irrigation Complex Canal Road Jammu, here today, to protest against the delaying policy of higher authorities of the department regarding payment of regular wages to them.
Shouting slogans in support of their demands, the protesting Casual Labours lamented that because of non-payment of wages for months together, their families had to suffer and some of them were even at the verge of starvation.
The protest was organized under the banner of J&K National Trade Union Front. The protesters urged the State Government to frame the wages head for regular payment of wages to Casual Labours in the department.
While addressing the protesting Casual Labours, Mohammad Gafoor Dar, State president J&K National Trade Union Front, urged upon the authorities of Irrigation & Flood Control Department to immediately release pending wages of Casual Labours in Tube Well Irrigation Division and other Divisions of the department without any further delay so that the suffering families can find some relief . He also urged the Chief Engineer Irrigation Flood control Jammu to submit the biometric Aadhar card based information to the Government as early as possible to ensure further regularization of Casual Labours by the Govt.
The other Union leaders, who addressed the protesting workers, included Rajinder Kumar, Pushpinder Singh, Surjeet Manyal, Kamal Kishore and Raj Singh.
