JAMMU, Jan 31: PG Department of Dogri in collaboration with Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust organized one day programme to felicitate Sahitya Akademi award winning writer, Chatterpal in the Seminar Hall of Computer Science Department, University of Jammu, here today.
A galaxy of writers, intellectuals, students, scholars, teachers and officers of Jammu University and prominent citizens were present.
At the outset of the programme, a condolence meeting was held to mourn the sad and untimely demise of Prof Devinder Singh of Geography Department, University of Jammu.
Dr. Nirmal Vinod, a prominent Dogri and Hindi poet read out a paper highlighting the literary merits of the Chattapal’s book ‘Cheta.’
Prof. Lalit Magotra, Convener, Dogri Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi presented citation on this occasion.
Dr Aziz Hajni, chief guest on the occasion, while speaking on the occasion, congratulated Chattarpal for winning Sahitya Akademi Award for his book ‘Cheta.’ He said that the Dogri knowing people must reciprocate the efforts of the writer by reading his books and by giving place to Dogri books in their homes. He also appreciated the effort of Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust and Dogri Department which are working tirelessly for the promotion of this regional language.
Prof. Keshav Sharma, who presided over the function, while delivering his address congratulated Chatterpal for winning the prestigious award of Sahitya Akademi in Dogri language. He said a language can survive and progress only if it is used in all walks of life like day-to-day conversation, education, business, media etc.
Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust Chairman Col. (Retd.) Kulbir Singh Jamwal also spoke on this occasion.
Zorawar Singh Jamwal, a close associate of Trust stressed that there is a lot of need to attract younger generation towards Dogri language.
Earlier, Poonam Jamwal, Vice-Chairman of KVM Trust while welcoming chief guests and other dignitaries present on the occasion, highlighted many distinctive qualities of Chatterpal’s personality. She also spoke a word of praise for citation presented by Prof. Lalit Magotra.
Prof. Archana Kesar also spoke on the occasion, while Prof Sushma Sharma, HoD Dogri presented vote of thanks.
The proceedings of the programme was conducted by Radha Rani, Ph.D. scholar of the Department.
