JAMMU, Jan 31: After a gap of several days, Pakistan army tonight again resorted to heavy mortar shelling and firing on forward Indian posts and villages in Shahpur sector of Poonch district.
Official sources said Pakistani troops started shelling forward areas in Shahpur at 9 pm, prompting the Indian side to retaliate.
Heavy exchange of shelling and firing continued when the reports last came in.
However, there were no reports of any casualties or damage on the Indian side so far.
Sources said Pakistan army was trying to push a group of militants into the Indian side from the LoC. The shelling was aimed at facilitating the infiltration attempt, they added.
