KATRA, Feb 6: Pouni club won the Invitational Kabaddi Championship by defeating Talwara club by 52-41 points in the keenly contested final match played at the Shrine Board’s Sports Complex at Katra today.
The championship was organised by the Sports Wing of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in which 11 teams participated. In all, 29 matches were played on league-cum-knockout basis during the 3-day tournament.
Dr. Piyush Singla, Additional Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, who was the chief guest at the final match, gave away prizes to the winner and runner-up teams as well as mementos to the technical officials of the championship. Mr. Karan Sharma of Pouni club and Avtar Singh of Talwara club scored maximum points for their teams.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Singla congratulated Pouni club for winning the championship and lauded the sportsmanship displayed by all the participating teams. He spoke about the initiatives taken by the Shrine Board for the promotion of sports and games as well as nurturing the sporting talent among the youth of the area by making available facilities at its Sports Complex. This, he said, would go a long way in catapulting the sports scenario with youth of the area winning laurels at the state and the national level sports events in the coming time. Before start of the final match players of both the teams were introduced to the chief guest.
Dr. Arvind Karwani, Dy. CEO, presented vote of thanks and Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, SMVDSB presented welcome address.
