New Tourism Projects

Chief Minister has been evincing keen interest in development of tourist industry in the State. Fortunately the Union Ministry of Tourism has been reacting favourably to the efforts of the Chief Minister in this area. The Union Ministry of Tourism is not interested only in expansion and upgrading of present tourist spots in the State but is also interested in expansion of tourism by exploring new tourist destinations and bringing these under the umbrella of tourism development projects. Under the new initiatives in tourism sector, the Union Ministry of Tourism has rolled out two mega projects worth Rs 194.74 crore for development of tourism infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. Under the two new projects announced lately come integrated development of tourism facilities on Gulmarg-Baramulla-Kupwara-Leh circuit which will be undertaken by the National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) at a cost of Rs 96.92 crore, while another project for integrated development of tourism facilities on Mantalai-Sudhmahadev-Patnitop circuit will be executed by National Projects Construction Corporation (NPCC) at a cost of Rs 97.82 crore. Of course, there are exciting projects and should contribute immensely to the development of tourist industry in the State. That one of the two mega projects is located in Jammu region is also recognition of the fact that the Centre is seriously interested in promoting tourist profile of Jammu region which was not there in real sense of the term.
In final analysis while these two mega projects and other schemes already in the pipeline are highly beneficial to the people of the State in strengthening economy and opening avenues for employment,  we hope that the Government will take steps to see that implementation of these projects is not hindered for want of logistical or financial support.
