JAMMU, Feb 9: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today said, “Education is the tool which can eliminate social evils like corruption, gender inequality, drug menace, female feticide and dowry from the society.”
The Minister was speaking at the annual day celebrations of Sri Guru Harkrishan Memorial High School, Simbal camp in Miran Sahib.
MLC Charanjeet Singh Khalsa, Assistant Commissioner (PF) Parvinder Singh, Dr. Rajinder Singh, staff members, parents and students of the school were present on the occasion.
The Minister further said, “Teachers play a vital role in shaping the career of students and it is their responsibility to provide them proper guidance so that they can become agents of change in the society.” He called upon teachers to impart quality education to the students, besides encouraging them to study hard and realize their dreams.
Emphasizing on the need to focus on overall growth of children, the Minster asked the school administration to hold debate competitions, seminars, declamation contests, painting competitions, symposiums and other co-curricular activities on regular basis.
The Minister further said the state government is taking one step after the other for improving the quality of education in the State and special emphasis is being laid on educating the girl child.
While addressing the gathering, MLC Charanjeet Singh Khalsa stressed on teaching Punjabi language in schools so that the children can learn about their culture and ethnic values.
The students presented various cultural programmes which were highly appreciated by the audience.
