This has reference to the news item ‘Centre approves Rs 170.5 cr for Devika’ DE Feb 9.
The decision of the Central Government to include world famous Devika in the National River Conservation Plan (NRCP) is more than welcome.
The money so approved for the Devika will help in preserving this dying river. It may be worthwhile to mention here that Devika was dying a slow death due to indifference shown by the successive State and Central Governments. The people of the area are to a great extent responsible for its present State. Despite being holy, and holding an esteemed position in the hearts of people, it was never cared.
Now when funds have been sanctioned for the its preservation, one hopes that the river will regain its past glory and will turn out to be a main attraction in Udhampur city.
