JAMMU, Feb 12: Member Legislative Council, Dr Shehnaz Ganai, today termed education as key to empower the women socially, economically, culturally and politically as well while exhorting the females to actively participate in all spheres of life as they have the potential and decision making power to lead the society.
The MLC was speaking at the three day “National Women’s Parliament” organised by the Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Assembly and Government of Andhra Pradesh at Amravati for women legislatures and the parliamentarians from across the country.
Stressing for empowerment of women at all levels, Dr Shehnaz said that Constitution guarantees equal rights to all its citizens but due to lack of proper knowledge about these rights there are women who still are deprived of their fundamental rights. “There is a need to raise awareness among the women especially the rural females regarding their rights and responsibilities so that they too live a dignified life,” she added.
“It is the existence of woman which is giving colour and thus recognition to the concept of Universe”, Dr Ganai said, adding the best way to empower women is to change the mind set in our homes so as to ensure that there is no discrimination with them on various issues.
Dr Ganai complimented the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for extending complete support in organizing such an educative National Women’s Parliament, which is a politically neutral platform for the women.
