PHE employees facing starvation

UDHAMPUR, Mar 2: Water Works (PHE) Employees Association held executive body meeting of both the districts of Udhampur and Reasi at PHE Complex here under the chairmanship of Som Nath, district president and senior vice president of the association for Jammu province.
The speakers strongly criticized the  attitude of the Government towards workers who have not been paid any wages for the past 40 months. While addressing Som Nath said there was no opposition and scarcity of funds when it comes to make a hike in the perks of Ministers, MLAs and MLCs and the concerned minister was not worried about the condition of the workers of the PHE Department who are facing starvation while running the water supply system properly and smoothly.
They also discussed various other long pending demands which included; Implementation of Minimum Wages Act; Immediate regularization of workers awaiting regularization for the past 15 to 22 years; Revision of sanctioned strength of the department, as there was no revision of sanctioned strength of field functionaries of the department for the past 40 years; Meeting shortage of staff to effectively man the on-going water supply schemes; Change of designation as per nature of job being performed by the workers; Payment to those engaged in lieu of land donation; and Enhancement in daily wage rate to Rs 150 to Rs 400.
Som Nath appealed all the employees of Jammu province to unite and remain prepared to launch agitation for seeking justice as the Government was not willing to fulfill genuine long pending demands of employees as well as workers of the department.
The demise of senior trade union leader Ram Parshad (teacher) was also mourned in the meeting.
