JAMMU, Mar 8: Defeating DFA Srinagar by two goals to one (2-0) in the summit clash, the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) team lifted the title trophy of the 25th State Football Championship, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) at GGM Science College Football Ground, here today.
Dr SP Vaid, Director General of Police (DGP) was the chief guest, who interacted with players of both the teams on the occasion and felicitated the footballers who attended the football camp recently held at Kathua, besides felicitating International footballers including ace footballer Ishfaq Ahmed. The other International footballers who were honoured on the occasion were MS Nari, Dr Nirmolak Singh, Rakesh Kumar, Amanjot Singh and Romesh Chander.
The DGP was accompanied by a galaxy of dignitaries including guest of honour, L. Mohanti, ADGP Armed, IGP Surinder Gupta, DIG Ashkoor Wani, SSP Jammu Dr Sunil Gupta, SSP Anil Katoch, AIG Rahul Malik, SP City Vinod Kumar, besides Office bearers of Football Association namely Zamir Thakur, SA Hamid, SM Gill and Surinder Singh Bunty.
A total of 45 matches were played in this soccer extravaganza among 46 participating teams.
Speaking on the occasion, DGP lavished praise on the organizers for holding this mega event and advised the players to play the game with sporting spirit.
Earlier, in the final, the players of JKP team displayed extraordinary soccer skills and succeeded in taking the early lead as Asif pelted a brilliant goal in the 5th minute. JKP led the first half by one goal to nil (1-0).
Though the players of DFA Srinagar tried their best to score an equalizer but it was Asif of JKP again to score another goal in the second half and win the match by (2-0).
