JAMMU, Mar 8: Commissioner Excise, Mohammad Javed Khan suspended the license of a brewery operating in Samba district following detection of Excise duty evasion on Bottles and cans of beer of a reputed brand being bottled under franchisee agreement.
According to official sources taking strong exception to the malpractice done by the Basantar Bottlers, the Commissioner Javed Khan today suspended the license of the brewery and also placed one Excise Officer and two guards under suspension for dereliction of duty.
Among the suspended officials included Incharge Excise Officer and two Excise guards pending enquiry into the matter. The license was suspended by the Excise Commissioner after receipt of the preliminary report from Deputy Excise Commissioner, Distilleries, who conducted surprise inspection of the factory on March 4 along with ETO Distillery and ETO Eradication and found 617 beer cans of 500 ML each and 493 beer bottles of 650 ML each of brewery without affixation of the mandatory Excise holograms on them.
The team during surprise inspection checked the Excise Bond of the brewery, where the beer bottles/cans were supposed to be stacked after bottling, affixation of Excise holograms and packed into cases. The Excise Commissioner further ordered an enquiry to be conducted by Deputy Excise Commissioner Executive.
