JAMMU, Mar 21: Nazir Ahmad Yattoo, Vice Chairman J&K Cements Ltd. called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Yattoo apprised the Governor about his plans of making J&K Cements a profitable enterprise and providing employment to qualified youth.
Advising Yattoo to leverage the core competencies of the company to satisfy the State’s cement requirements, the Governor pointed to the urgent need of the Comptroller and Auditor General’s Annual Reports being closely studied to remedy the serious observations raised in the Audit Reports and ensure that this PSU functions effectively and transparently.
G H Mir, former Agriculture Minister also called on Governor N. N. Vohra.
Mir held discussions with the Governor about the obtaining security environment and certain issues relating to the forthcoming Parliamentary and Panchayat elections in the State.
Professor Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Head Department of Earth Sciences, University of Kashmir also called on Governor.
Prof. Romshoo discussed with the Governor issues relating to ongoing research projects focusing sharply on identified challenges faced by the State as for example the rapidly emerging serious problems relating to climate change, issues relating to preservation of the fragile ecology, ground water management and so on.
After discussions with Prof. Romshoo, the Governor has desired to have a further meeting in which senior Government echelons would also be involved to discuss and identify fruitful approaches to research projects progressively relating to the resolution of problems faced by the people of the State.
