Rohit scalps 5, Surya scores fifty as JCC thrashes Baramulla by 9 wkts in CM’s Cricket Cup

JAMMU, Mar 21: Promising speedster Rohit Sharma scalped 5 important wickets, while Surya Mahotra slammed brilliant half-century as formidable Jammu Cricket Club (JCC) thrashed Baramulla Cricket Club by 9 wickets to seal berth in the semifinals of the ongoing 1st State Level 50-Over Cricket Tournament for Chief Minister’s Cup, being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council in collaboration with Country Cricket Academy at Gharota, near here.
The Tournament, first of its kind in the State is being organized in the memory of Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, former Chief Minister, under the supervision of Vikrant Sharma, Director Country Cricket Academy, Gharota.
Former Ranji Trophy Player, Vivek Sharma is the organizing secretary of the Tournament.
Earlier, batting first, Baramulla Cricket Club scored a modest toal of 110 runs in 38.3 overs. Openers Jowhar Bashir and Sajid Ali scored 26 and 13 runs respectively., while Jasvinder Singh and Harshit contributed 19 runs each. For JCC, Rohit Sharma was the pick of the bowlers, who claimed 5 wickets by conceding 17 runs in his 10 overs, while left-arm spinner Deepak Dogra (Baba) took 3 wickets by giving away 22 runs in his 9.3 overs. Guru Partap Singh and Vishwajeet Singh claimed one wicket each.
In reply, JCC rode on brilliant unbeaten knocks by Surya Mahotra (51) and Guru Partap Singh (40) and chased the target in 14 overs by losing one wicket, thus won the match by 9 wickets. Jasvinder Singh was the only batsman dismissed for 15 runs. For Baramulla Cricket Club, Mujeeb-ul-Haq was the lone wicket taker. Rohit Sharma of JCC was declared as man of the match for his 5-wicket haul.
