JAMMU, Mar 27: SD Singh Jamwal, IGP Jammu Zone today declared open Khelo India Games in Jammu at the St. Peters School, Satwari, here.
The Games are being played simultaneously in 17 blocks of Jammu district with more than 4500 players taking part in the Games.
The IGP in his address lauded the efforts of the Sports Council and complemented Vice Chairman Sports Council Jammu, Ranjeet Kalra and his team of State Sports Council for organizing the games on such a large scale.
He also extended all support of the police department to the Sports Council for nurturing sporting talent in the State.
The IGP later also interacted with the players. Ranjeet Kalra in his inaugural address gave a detailed overview about the games.
SP South Sandeep Choudhary and Sr Administrator of St Peters School, Sr. Glansia were the Guests of Honour.
Chief Sports Officer, Haji Abdul Qayoom, DSO Ravi Singh, Ajaz Choudhary, Manager Indoor Stadium Satish Gupta, besides coaches and staff of DYSS were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Khelo India State Level Taekwondo Championships 2016-17 was organized by J&K State Sports Council in collaboration with J&K Taekwondo Association at Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha, Parade, here.
Around 500 players from 14 districts participated in this Championship.
Chief Guest of the opening ceremony was Abdul Gani Kohli, Minister, Animal Husbandry and Sheep & Fishery, while Nazir Ahmed Standing Committee Member J&K State Sports Council and Dr. Sanjogita Sudan, Sports Medicine Specialist were the guests of honour.
The technical Team is being headed by Atul Pangotra (IR), Mukta Gupta, Nitish Anand, Rajan Jamwal, Pooja Sharma,Tashi Tundup, Sarbjeet (NR) from Chandigarh, Preeti (NR) from Chandigarh, Sujata (NR) from Chandigarh, Gurinder Rakwal, Arvind Satti, Rohit Sharma and Nariender Sharma.
