JAMMU, Mar 29: The four days Khelo India J&K State Wushu Championship commenced today at Jammu University, here.
Around 550 participants from 18 Districts of the State are taking part in the championship. The event is for Under-14 and Under-17 Boys and Girls category.
The Championship is being sponsored by the J&K State Sports Council under Khelo India scheme. Earlier, the Wushu Association of J&K conducted the 10 District championships in Kashmir province in a daunting task. The closing ceremony of the championship will be held on March 31, 2017 at Jammu University.
The Championship was inaugurated by Professor Keshav Sharma, Registrar Jammu University, while Ranjeet Kalra, Vice Chairman Sports Council, Jammu was the guest of honour.
In his message he congratulated the Wushu Association of J&K for making the country and the state proud by winning the medals at the International events.
Ranjeet Kalra in his welcome address lauded the Association for excellent show of wushu and specially the way the District Bodies of Wushu Association of J&K conducted the district championships in just short span of time,
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Kuldeep Handoo, Chief Coach of India, Sohit Sharma, treasurer of the Association, Ajay Paul Gill, Abhishek Jamwal, Atul, Ruchi, Sheetal and District Secretaries of all 18 districts.
Earlier, in Under-14 Girls (Below-24kg), Zobia Umer (Srinagar) Gold; Kriti (Udhampur) Silver; Sania Akram (Bandipura) Bronze and Aayat Mohideen (Budgam) Bronze.
Under-14 Girls (Below-28Kg), Aliza Shah(Srinagar) Gold; Pakeeza Rehman (Budssgam) Silver; Arbeena Manzoor (Kulgam) Bronze and Ayesha Hayaat (Jammu) Bronze.
Under-14 Girls (Below 32Kg), Aira Chasti (Srinagar) Gold, Laika Mushtaq (Bandipora) Silver; Bisma Nazir (Budgam) Bronze and Sabia Gul (Anantnag) Bronze.
Under 14-boys (Below 32Kg), Bazil Ayoub (Ganderbal) Gold; Younis Khan (Budgam) Silver, Mohd Atif (Baramulla) Bronze and Manu Kumar (Samba) Bronze.
