Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu is rightly worried about rail accidents happening in some parts of the country and resulting in loss of precious lives. Normally, Railways Ministry takes all possible precautionary steps to ensure that no rail accidents happen. These measures are foolproof and surely, our railways do not meet with accidents owing to any technical snag. A lot of improvement has happened in rail service and much more is in the offing. At the same time, rail networks are constantly expanding and rail connectivity is reaching even the remote corners of the country.
However, recent couple of rail accidents has created a doubt in the mind of rail authorities that these could be the result of conspiracies and subversion. In order to plug them the Railway Minister wrote to the Home Minister and the latter has called a meeting to discuss the matter. The decision of constituting an expert committee to examine the issue of sabotage of railway lines and suggest the means of plugging the snag is timely. We hope the committee will submit its report shortly and the saboteurs will be checkmated. This is a much needed committee and it should give its report as early as possible.
