SKUAST-TAJ for removal of API score in 7th Pay Commission

JAMMU, Apr 2: SKUAST-Teaching Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ) has demanded the removal of Annual Performance Indicator / Index (API) for the appointment and promotion of teachers in the University system in the 7th Pay Commission.
In a statement, Dr Vikas Sharma, president of the Association, informed that API score has done more harm than good to the education system of the country and particularly to Agricultural university where teachers are forced to work for increasing the API score for their promotions rather than for students and farmers – the stakeholders.
“Removal of API in 7th Pay Commission is urgent so that the meaningful contributions of the scientists to the country / society are duly acknowledged and appropriately rewarded through appointments / promotions”, he said.
Dr Vikas added that the prevailing system where teachers are evaluated based on a set pattern to suit a set of scientists who work for increasing the API only than those who are contributing in the field under extreme hardships is not in the interest of nation in general and student / farming community in particular.
Dr Vivak M Arya, general secretary of the Association, stressed for early implementation of 7th PC without API as 6th Pay Commission was implemented late by three years that has already created a mess in different State varsities and Departments as the pay anomalies are not yet removed leading to financial liability in Educational Institutions of the State.  He further informed that very soon the Association will take up the matter with Union Minister of HRD for immediate redressal.
