JAMMU, Oct 16: Semifinal position has been cleared in Inter-Collegiate Men Hockey Championship, being organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at University Hockey Field, here.
Now, in the semifinals, PG Arts will take on GDC Poonch and GDC Kathua will lock horns with MAM College Jammu tomorrow.
Earlier, in the first quarterfinal match played today, Government Degree College (GDC) Poonch blanked GGM Science College Jammu by four goals to nil (4-0).
After a great tussle in the first half, Sahil Sambyal of GDC Poonch netted a splendid goal in 35th minute of the match, which was followed by back to back goals scored by Tarvinder Singh in 40th and 45th minutes to make it difficult for Science College to bounce back. Finally, Paramjot Singh scored yet another goal in 56th minute to help his team win by (4-0).
In another quarterfinal match, MAM College rode on a hat-trick scored by Babneet Singh, and thrashed Trikuta Degree College by four goals to nil (4-0). MAM College got the early lead through Malkeet Singh, who pelted a goal in 10th minute of the match and then it was Babneet Singh all the way, who scored back to back three goals in 49th, 59th and 64th minutes of the match.
Meanwhile, in the third quarterfinal match, GDC Kathua got better of SPMR Commerce College by five goals to two (5-2). Navdeep Singh was the star performer, scoring two goals in 25th and 51st minutes respectively, while Vivek Sharma netted a goal in 40th minute, Amar Sharma in 45th and Mandeep Singh in 69th minute. For Commerce College, both the goals were scored by Gagandeep Singh in 16th and 65th minute of the match.
PG Arts sailed into the semifinals by getting walkover in the quarterfinal.
