JAMMU, Apr 5: Two-day ‘Save River Tawi’ Campaign organized separately by Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu (JU) and ‘Disha Young Club’ concluded today.
During the campaign organized by Department of Environmental Sciences (JU), more than 100 students, research scholars, faculty members and other volunteers divided into several groups spread across the two banks of River Tawi, interacted with the devotees visiting the river for immersion of Khetri/Saakh along with other religious material and motivated them to throw the waste in separate containers provided by the Municipal Corporation Jammu for segregation of waste into biodegradable and recyclable waste.
Volunteers while interacting with the devotees urged upon the need of community participation in conservation and preservation of the pristine environment of River Tawi which is the lifeline of Jammu City. Most of the devotees joined the campaign and actively participated in collecting the waste, segregating it and also sensitising and motivating others to join the noble cause.
The volunteers collected the religious material including polythenes, chunnri’s, garlands, diva’s etc from the people at the entry point at Tawi Ghat near main bridge and from the Tawi river at Har ki Paudi.
