JAMMU, Apr 24: Charging the State Government with failure on all fronts, senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said that restoration of peace was not possible during the incumbent PDP-BJP dispensation even as he maintained that imposition of Governor’s rule was no solution to prevailing crisis in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Governor rule is not an option and solution to prevailing crisis in Jammu and Kashmir but at the same time, it is a fact that peace will not be restored here till there is PDP-BJP Government in the State,” he said while talking to media persons on his arrival here today.
Azad said that one needs the mental ability and art to take along everyone together for running a Government but neither BJP nor PDP take others into confidence. “Both PDP and BJP only want to be in power but they don’t know how to run the Government,” he added.
In an apparent reference to the ongoing unrest in Kashmir valley and increased number of stone pelting incidents there, the former Chief Minister predicted that there would be no end to the violence till PDP-BJP dispensation remains in power.
Lashing out at BJP, Azad said that the party for the last 60 years had been desiring for an opportunity to be in power and now when the chance was given, they proved to be a failure on all fronts. He also mocked at the BJP leaders for attacking Congress policies on Kashmir and said that the persons, who don’t know how to run the Government, were delivering policy sermons to others.
Later, while addressing Congress workers at the residence of former Minister Abdul Majid Wani at Doda and at the reception accorded to him at Nashri in Ramban, the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha alleged that the NDA Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was trying to contest the decades long achievements of Congress party to hide their failures.
He predicted that Congress would emerge as the largest political force in the State as people from all three regions appreciate the policies and programmes of the party and its leadership, which are aimed at to serving the common masses. “Congress party feels duty bound to respect urges and aspirations of the people of all three regions in order to strengthen the unity and integrity of the State and the nation,” he said and added that the party was strong in all three regions, but Jammu region has been its back bone.
Azad further said that the Congress party was committed to strengthen the democratic institutions in the State for the larger benefit of the people and in order to ensure the participation of people in the governance and development.
He asked partymen to unitedly work for strengthening the organization in all parts of the State at the grass root level and promote communal harmony. He asked for coordinated efforts of the party, including frontal organizations to take along party workers and promote communal harmony in all parts of the State.
Azad also inaugurated the newly constructed Community centre at main market Doda. The building has been constructed under MPLAD scheme funded by Mr Azad and completed at an estimated cost of Rs 2.50 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Azad said that construction of similar community centres was started in all the major towns of the district and few of them have been already dedicated to the people. He urged the district administration to utilize these centres for organizing Government programmes besides asked to allow the building for wedding purposes with minimal charges, to be used for maintenance of building.
MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, MLC Naresh Gupta, former Ministers Abdul Majid Wani, Mohd Sharief Niaz, DDC Doda Bhupinder Kumar besides officer of district administration were present on the occasion.
At Nashri, a rousing reception was accorded to Azad by a large numbers of party workers and senior leaders, led by former Minister Vikar Rasool Wani.
Azad also visited Batote market and interacted with people, who raised different issues, particularly the loss of business in the Batote market after the opening of Chenani-Nashri tunnel. The Congress leader assured the people that he would raise the issue in Rajya Sabha and take appropriate action for redressal of the grievance of public.
