JAMMU, May 7: Even as the Government is struggling to ensure the proper supply of basic amenities to people of Jammu region, the PDP-BJP alliance has no plans to keep special Summer Secretariat operational in Jammu, when the seat of governance has moved to Srinagar for next six months.
This was declared by former minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla while addressing public gathering at Govind Pura here today. Bhalla took serious note of the decision of the PDP-BJP Govt to discontinue the practice of Summer Sectt in Jammu, after the Darbar move for six months to the summer capital in Srinagar.
Criticizing the decision of the Govt to discontinue the past practice where by the summer and winter secretariats use to function when Darbar moved to the other region as per Darbar move practice and this was to the benefits of common people of respective regions to meet their urgent grievances. Describing this decision of the PDP-BJP Govt as anti-people, Bhalla demanded setting up Summer Sectt in Jammu immediately, as per past practice.
Bhalla said a decade ago in a bid to ensure that people don’t suffer when the seat of governance is away from their region, the then Congress Govt had introduced the concept of summer and winter secretariats in 2006. That time Govt believed that people of trouble-torn area should have regular access to the seat of governance through special secretariats. But last year Mufti Muhammad Sayeed changed the decade old tradition.
Congress leader expressed serious concern over stealing money from banks and ATMs and looting guns from security personnel. He that in the past seven months, militants have looted more than Rs 1 crore from banks and ATMs in 13 such incidents – all of them concentrated in South Kashmir. He said that until January 2017, militants looted 66 weapons from security personnel, which included 17 AK rifles, 23 SLR rifles, 14 INSAS rifles and 6 pistols, along with over 7,000 rounds of ammunition. There seems a degree of public support to militants in the four southern districts on the prowl, looting banks and snatching weapons from J&K police personnel.
Bhalla alleged that the entire situation in the Valley is deteriorating ever since this Government came into power. He made a scathing attack on the PDP-BJP for not handling the law and order situation in Kashmir.
