Govt expanding advanced sports services in State: Sham

JAMMU, Oct 19: Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma, today said that the Government is expanding advanced sports edifice in the State with focus on rural and remote pockets.
This was stated by the Minister while chairing a function of wrestling competition organized by the Mathwar Management Dangal Committee at Mathwar.
During the competition, the wrestlers from Pakistan, Ukraine, England besides various states like Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, Chandigarh and J&K participated.
The Wrestler  Leone Gregory from England won the first bout while another wrestler  Munish from Haryana was the runner up of the competition. The winner got Rs. 31,000 and honoured by silver Gurj award while Rs. 30,000 was given to runner up.
Meanwhile, in the second bout  Bhallu from Delhi won the match and received a cash prize of Rs. 31,000 while the loser  Anjam from Pakistan was the runner up and was given Rs. 20,000.
The 3rd Match was played between Baniya from J&K Police and Bilal Hussain of Pakistan. In this match, Baniya won the bout and awared with a prize of Rs. 20,000 and the runner up was given Rs. 11,000.
Speaking on the occasion, Sham praised the organizers for conducting such type of event which will help the state’s wrestlers to further improve their talent. These events also help in promoting friendly relationship among the people of different cultures and traditions. He hoped that committee will continue such type of efforts to encourage the sports talent in the State.
The Minister highlighted various reformative steps being taken up by the government in making available all necessary sports facilities to the players of the State especially those living in rural and far-off pockets.
The Minister said besides construction of playfields at block and Panchayat level under PYKKA, the government has also taken up various mega projects to develop modern sports infrastructure to facilitate the youth. He described sports as best mediums to channelize energies of men in a right direction.
The cash prize of Rs. 21,000 was given to the Dangal Committee by IGP Jammu on the occasion.  Dilbag Singh also announced that a cash prize of Rs. One lakh was given by Police Department to the winner of first bout in the international wrestling competition to be held in Katra.
Among others, District Development Commissioner Jammu  Sanjeev Verma, Senior NC Leader Taran Jeet Singh Tony, Organizer  Shiv Kumar Sharma were also present on the occasion.
