JAMMU, May 18: IGP Jammu SD Singh inaugurated the Coaching Camp Cum Trial Matches for the Physically Challenged Cricketers of India, which got underway at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here today.
The event is being organized by Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu in collaboration with the Physically Challenged Cricket Association of India, under the direction and supervision of Dr SD Singh, IGP Jammu, while Rajesh Gill, Chief Prosecuting Officer and Former Ranji Trophy player is the Coordinator of the event.
The main objective to conduct the Coaching Camp and trial matches at Jammu for the Physically Challenged Cricketers is to provide the opportunity to the J&K cricketers to attend national camp and to play against the Rest of India players to get the National selectors nod to represent the Country.
SD Singh was the Chief Guest in the inaugural function, who while speaking on the occasion said that J&K Police is committed to provide platform to every youth of the state in all fields to help them blossom at the National and International scene and also help them not to derail from the mainstream.
He further said that he felt ecstatic to see the cricketing skills of the specially -abled cricketers of J&K and the players from Rest of India as well.
He also assured the J&K Physically Challenged Cricketers that Police will conduct more tournaments and coaching camps for them in near future.
IGP thanked the Physically Challenged Cricket Association of India (PCCAI) for holding the India Camp at Jammu for the selection of National team.
Earlier, Rajesh Gill presented welcome address and gave brief report of the tournament.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dr Sunil Gupta, SSP Jammu; Rajesh Sharma SO to IGP Jammu; Nitendra Singh, Director Cricket Operations Physically Challenged Cricket Association of India; Rajnish Pran, So to DIG Jammu; Vinod Kumar SP City; Ramesh Kotwal SP Headquarters; Vinay Sharma SP Operation, Desh Rattan Dubey, Joint Secretary JKCA, Jammu; Rajesh Dhar, Chairman Media Committee JKCA; Parshotam Sharma, Deputy Director RPHQ; DySPs Nikhil, Arun Jamwal, Sugandha Mahajan, Priyanka and SHO Nawabad.
In the inaugural match, Rest of India defeated J&K XI by 6 wickets.
Batting first, J&K XI scored 93 in 18.4 overs. Syed Shah Aziz, Firdose and Jagmohan were the main contributors with 24, 21 and 11 runs respectively. From Rest of India, skipper Ravi Patil took 3 important wickets, Sarang and Manish took 2 wickets each, while Vikrant claimed one.
In reply, Rest of India chased the target easily in 11.3 overs for the loss of 4 wickets with Ravi Patil (23) runs, Vikrant Kinni (20) and Omveer (18) being the main scorers.
From J&K, Jagmohan took 2 wickets, while Nadeem and Firdose shared 1 wicket each.
Five players from J&K XI have been selected for the India Camp. The players include Jagmohan, Nadeem Bhat, Syed Shah Aziz, Firdose and Said. They will be tested in net practice and trial matches for their selection in the national team. And the selected team will represent the Country in the forthcoming “Indo-Afgan Friendship Series” which is going to be organized by the Physically Challenged Cricket Association of India at Saheed Vijay Pratham Stadium, Greater Noida (International Stadium) from May 22,2017.
The match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik, Saleem-Ur-Rehman, Madan Mohan and Sandeep Manchanda, while the proceedings of the inaugural function were conducted by Rajesh Dhar.
