SRINAGAR, May 29: Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari today released Rs 10 crore as mobilization advance to Housing Board for the construction of seven girls’ hostels across the State.
The Minister announced this while chairing a meeting to review the construction of hostels in colleges in Jammu and Kashmir sanctioned under Prime Ministers Development Package (PMDP).
The hostels will be constructed at GDC Paloura, Jammu and GDC Bemina, Srinagar at an estimated cost of Rs 12.5 crore each. At GDC Thathri, GDC Rajouri, Women’s GDC Kupwara, Women’s GDC Pulwama and GDC Kargil, the hostels will be constructed at the cost of Rs 5 crore each.
He asked Housing Board, the executing agency for the construction of girls’ hostels to speed up work so that students don’t face any inconvenience. The meeting informed that total estimated cost of the project is Rs 50 crore.
Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, MD Housing Board, Director RUSA, Director Colleges, Financial Advisor to Higher Education and DGM Housing Board attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, Minister for Education, directed schools to conduct T1 exam for 8th class internally.
The Minister took this decision after meeting a delegation of Private Schools Association, headed by G N Var, in his office chamber where, Minister decided that T1 exam for 8th class would be conducted by schools internally and T2 will be conducted by State Institute of Education (SIE).
He asked the delegation to focus on the quality education and to provide the necessary facilities to the students.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary Higher Education, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, Director School Education, Kashmir, Dr GN Itoo.
