KATHUA, May 30: Misled by rumor mongers that Government will provide cash assistance to girls for their marriages through Social Welfare Department, hundreds of girls drawn from rural areas of Kathua thronged various offices in the Kathua township for days together to fill up the required forms and complete all formalities required for the purpose.
As the rumor spread that Rs 40,000 will be paid to each girl for her marriage, the girls along with their parents thronged various government offices to fill up the forms. As it was only rumor and viral messages from neighboring State Punjab still the girls along with their parents thronged the DC Office to complete the formalities like signing of affidavits, seeking income certificates, character certificates, reports from Revenue Department etc to be kept with application forms.

The girls were seen wandering from one table to another table to complete their required formalities after wasting two or three days in DC office complex in this process. But no official accepted the forms as there was no such scheme from the Government. This created a hue and cry and the girls protested against the administration.
As Additional Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Dr Bharat Bhushan came to know about the same he visited the Revenue complex to verify the ground realities of filling of form for financial assistance. After making detail inquiry from Social Welfare Department , ADDC made it clear to the girls that these were only rumors and they should have first verified the same. He asked them to stop the practice of filling up of forms as it is both wastage of money and time.
He said that the Government has not any such schemes so far and only the Anganwari workers are making a survey of adult unmarried girls. If there would have been any decision from Government in this regard the notification would have been published in the news papers.
He appealed the people of Kathua district not to trust on rumors.
