JAMMU, May 30: Taking cognizance of a girl student’s complaint, the Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH) in Jammu University has recommended enquiry into the matter and also debarring the accused Assistant Professor from all assignments related to Semester IV exams of the MCA Department.
The Screening Committee to look into genuineness of the complaint of sexual harassment against Assistant Professor Shubhnandan Jamwal, is learnt to have found the allegations substantial and soon after a report in this regard was submitted this afternoon, an emergency meeting of CASH was held wherein recommendation was made for an inquiry committee to look into the matter, official sources told the Excelsior.
The five-member committee will look into the case and after a thorough inquiry, a report would be submitted to the Vice-Chancellor for further action, sources added.
The complaint of sexual harassment against the Assistant Professor was submitted by the victim student to Vice-Chancellor’s office on May 17 following which the Screening Committee of CASH was on job to ascertain genuineness of the complaint. In support of her allegation, the victim had also provided audio recording of her conversation with the accused, in which the latter is heard of seeking favour for managing the student to pass her failed subjects.
Keeping in view seriousness of allegations, the Committee Against Sexual Harassment had yesterday recommended the Vice-Chancellor to debar the accused Assistant Professor from all assignments related to Semester IV exams of MCA in Jammu University.
Meanwhile, the complaint of sexual harassment against Assistant Professor has sent a shock wave among the university students, who held a strong protest demonstration on the campus today. Demanding stern action against the accused Assistant Professor, they staged dharna at MCA Department and then in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat.
The victim student was also in the protest dharna and she alleged that the accused Assistant Professor was harassing her for the past some time and she had recorded the conversation to expose him.
Pertinent to mention that similar allegations of sexual harassment were earlier leveled against this accused Assistant Professor during his tenure at Bhaderwah Campus of Jammu University.
