JAMMU, May 31: A team of officers from Legal Metrology and concerned oil company headed by Deputy Controller Enforcement Jammu under the supervision of Controller Legal Metrology Department Vipra Bhal conduct detailed inspection of a petrol pump and imposed fine of Rs 25000 for charging excess price from the consumer.
Acting on a complaint of a consumer the inspection team checked the accuracy of the pump which was delivering accurately but its auto cut operation through nozzle was not in working position and it was ascertained that the pipe from fuel tank to filling cap of the tank could also hold approx 1 litre of petrol.
Since the auto cut of nozzle was not working, it was the negligence on the part of management of the pump to charge from the consumer for the petrol spitted out of tank , hence the department fined for charging for more quantity than the actual quantity delivered into the fuel tank of the car.
Also taking cognize of the complaints of the consumer on being overcharged for cold drinks and other eatables, the department conducted inspection of a cineplex and imposed fine of Rs 50000 on the management for selling commodities without adhering to the mandatory declarations for the information of the consumers and in violation of various provisions of Legal Metrology Laws.
